A Richard Macadie penalty kick 7 minutes from full time was enough to claim the three points today to keep Academy at the top of the table. Vale finished the game with only 10 men when Craig Simpson was sent off for two bookings. Sean McCarthy and Grant Steve were both out injured for the Scorries. Deveronvale had Liam Forbes out through suspension but their new signing Stuart Leslie got a starting berth.

Academy started the game well and within 4 minutes Lukasz Geruzel tapped in a Davie Allan cross but the Polish striker was adjudged to have been off-side.

Geruzel was in on the action again in Academy's next attack. Ross Allan played a pass to Richard Macadie from a short free-kick. Macadie delivered a left footed cross into the Vale box which Geruzel got his head onto but it was an easy take for the Vale keeper Darren McConnachie.

It took the Vale 10 minutes before they threatened the Academy goal. Philip Watt played the ball to Martin Charlesworth inside the Academy box. Charlesworth laid it into the path of Craig Cowie but he fired his shot straight to James More.

In Academy's next attack they very nearly opened the scoring. Ross Allan delivered a cross from the left that found James Pickles on the edge of the Vale box. Pickles played it into Macadie who had a first time volley which looked goal-bound but McConnachie tipped it over for a corner.

Vale started to have a good spell and won a corner which Alexander Jack controlled but his shot from the edge of the penalty area landed on the roof of the Academy net.

James More then pulled off two great saves to put the teams in at the interval goalless. The ball was delivered from the wing to Vale's new signing Stuart Leslie. He beat Ross Allan to the ball and pocked it to Phillip Watt who went one-on-one with More but the Academy keeper got a block on Watt's shot to knock it for a corner. Stuart Lesley also started Vale's next move when he beat Alan Farquhar to the ball and he played it out to Martin Charlesworth. Charlesworth delivered a deep cross to the back post to Graeme Rodger who took a touch to make a yard past Grant Campbell but More saved his shot.

The home side created the first chance of the second half. Graeme Rodger played a defence splitting pass down the right channel into Philip Watt. He took a touch and then got a low daisy cutting shot on target that was saved by More and the Academy defence cleared the loose ball.

Sam Mackay came on for Anderson who looked as if he'd taken a knock.

Craig Simpson got booked for Vale and substitute Mackay crashed his free-kick attempt off the Vale wall.

Academy kept on the hunt for the elusive first goal. James Pickles knocked down a cross from the left flank to the feet of Davie Allan at the edge of the Vale box. He took a touch to set himself before drilling in a shot that keeper McConnachie spilled but gathered at the second attempt.

Academy came close again when a corner on the left from Richard Macadie found the head of Geruzel but keeper McConnachie parried it away. That was the last action of the game for Geruzel as he was substituted shortly afterwards for Gary Weir.

On 79 minutes Craig Simpson picked up his second booking of the game and the home side were down to 10 men.

With 9 minutes left to play referee David Watt awarded a penalty kick to Academy when keeper McConnachie was adjudged to have fouled Davie Allan after the Academy striker had collected a pass from his brother Ross. The Deveronvale players disputed the decision and Ross Aitken was booked in the process. Several minutes passed before Richard Macadie was able to take the penalty but he kept his cool and although McConnachie got a hand to the ball he couldn't keep it out and Macadie clocked up his 4th goal in the last 4 games.

0 - 1

Vale almost snatched a point in the last minute of the game when a 30 yard free kick attempt from Stuart Leslie flashed just wide of target.
