Academy travelled to Fraserburgh today and agonisingly lost the game deep into injury time when Russell McBride headed home the winner. Academy playing the final 25 minutes of the game with only 10 men, with Michael Steven sent off after picking up a second booking.  James Pickles was back in the starting line-up after missing the last 5 games with a broken bone in his shoulder, and he will be much-needed as Craig Shearer is potentially out for a few weeks after being carried off with a twisted ankle. Davie Allan was still out but his younger brother Ross started.

Academy started the game playing into the face of a blowing gale and went a goal down after 17 minutes. A long ball over the top deceived Alan Farquhar and Peter A Bruce cut in and took the ball down before side-footing past Michael Gray from 10 yards out.

The Broch were taking full advantage of the wind on their backs and came close on several other occasions with the wood-work saving the Scorries.

Just after the half-hour mark the home side doubled their lead. Scott Fowler had a shot from about 30 yards out that Michael Gray did well getting down to make a good block, but Willie West was on hand to tap home the loose ball.

Academy got themselves right back into the game 4 minutes later. James Pickles picked the ball up 20 yards from the Broch goal and passed to Gary Manson. He whipped in a great cross for Lukasz Geruzel to head home inside keeper Paul Leask's left hand post from 8 yards out, his 7th goal of the season.

2 - 1

Bad news for the Scorries a few minutes later. Craig Shearer went up for a header and landed awkwardly. He twisted his ankle in the process and is stretchered off, replaced by Gary Weir.

Half Time - Fraserburgh 2 - Wick Academy 1

58 minutes played and Academy create a great chance from a well-worked corner. Richard Macadie took it short to Sam Mackay who came out for it. He returned the ball to Macadie to lay-off for Ross Allan who took it on the run and he rifled a 25 yard shot that looked goal-bound but keeper Leask went air-born and made a fantastic save turning the ball around his right hand post to

With 66 minutes gone referee Graham Beaton booked Michael Steven. It was his second of the game and the red followed to put Academy down to 10 men.

Despite the set-back Academy level the scores. They are awarded a free-kick 25 yards from goal that Sam Mackay struck low inside the keeper's right hand post.

8 minutes from full-time Fraserburgh have a great chance to regain the lead. Peter Bruce is through on goal and he got his shot off from 14 yards out, but Grant Steven got back to him and with an out-stretched leg he made a fantastic defensive block.

Deep into extra-time heart-break for Academy. Fraserburgh fired a free kick deep to the back post. It was headed down and bounced up in the penalty area for Russell McBride to jump the highest and he headed home past Gray.
