Alness WAFC U17's 1 0 WAFC U17's 9
Wick Academy U17s travelled to Alness for there first game of the season. This has always been a difficult fixture for wick.
Academy started well moving the ball about, but within 5 minutes they found themselves 1 nil down loosing a goal to a set play that was not dealt with.
Academy tho did not panic and kept passing the ball creating chances.
Alness tho nearly added a second on 15 minutes when a long through ball was missed by the centre backs only for Cameron Duffy to make a good save.
Academy equalised on 20 minutes when man of the match Jack Hallidays pass found James Mackay on the right his low cross was turned in at the front post by Alan Hughes.
Within 2 minutes Academy were 2-1 up when Saleem Bremner got the ball wide left and went on a mazy run which finished with a low drive into the bottom left hand corner.
End of first half hour.
The second period academy started off the way they finished the first, the football played was good passing and movement, it could not be argued that they were in total control of the game always keeping the ball on the deck going on to score 4 more goals without reply the pick of which was a fine chip by Marc Coghill who also had a fine game. the other goals coming from Scott Bell 2 headers for set plays and Kerr Mackay.
The third period was more of the same from Academy lots of good football scoring 3 more times with the pick of the goals coming from James Mackay who got on the end of an Alan Hughes cut back to make it 9-1.
Full Time 1 - 9.
Overall a good first performance by the team, also considering that half the squad have just moved up this year, there will be sterner tests this year but a promising start.
