Academy notched up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw against visitors Forres Mechanics. A dipping shot from Ryan Stuart after only 5 minutes slid in under the outstretched hand of Danny McCarthy to give Forres an early lead. Richard Macadie squared the scores however 12 minutes later as he converted from a fairly tight angle passed keeper Stuart Knight.

The visitors opened the scoring in their first real attack of the game. A long ball down-field found Ryan Stuart who found some space and his low driving 20 yard shot dipped under the outstretched hand of Danny McCarthy and crept in at the bottom of the left hand post.

0 - 1

Academy settled in and got their passing game going and levelled 12 minutes later. Jack Halliday delivered onto the box to the feet of Richard Macadie. Keeper Stuart Knight came out of his goal to try to close him down but Macadie went around him and converted from a tight angle via a small nick off a defender.

1 - 1

Academy had the better of the remainder of the half but lacked the cutting edge to create another clear chance.

Half Time - Wick Academy 1 - Forres Mechanics 1

Forres had the first real chance of the second half just passed the hour mark. McCarthy failed to hold a high cross into the box which was half cleared to Stuart Soan but his shot from close range cannoned back off the intersection of bar and post.

Forres attacked again and Academy failed to clear a scramble in the box before the ball fell to Kieran Chalmers but he dragged his shot wide of target.

Up the other end Marc MacGregor hit a sweet half-volley that went straight into the arms of keeper Knight.

On 76 minutes Sam Mackay had a crack from 25 yards that whistled just passed the outside of Knight's right-hand post.

5 minutes later Forres were denied by two excellent blocks on the spin from Michael Steven as he threw his body in front of two hammer drives.

With two minutes left on the click Forres thought they'd grabbed the winner. Lee Fraser was played into the edge of the Academy box and his thunderbolt of a shot took a deflection and looked to be heading into the top corner of the net but McCarthy went air-born and managed to push the ball around his left-hand post for a corner.

In extra time substitute Ross Allan had a header from a free kick that Knight saved down to his left.
