Academy lost their opening game of the campaign with a 3-1 defeat away at Fraserburgh. Davie Allan and Alan Farquhar look set to miss another chunk of the season with injuries picked up last year, and James Pickles was suspended for this one. New signings Alasdair Stark, Jack Halliday and Aidan Wilson all made the opening line-up.

Academy started the game well and in 19 minutes Steven Anderson drove forward was taken down on the box by Bryan Hay. Referee Graham Beaton pointed to the spot. Richard Macadie stepped forward and made no mistake in beating keeper Peter Tait.

0 - 1

Fraserburgh took a throw-in on the right to Willie West who was about 25 yards from goal. He turned and shot but his effort went high over the bar.

Fraserburgh were having a good spell and a short free-kick was played to Ryan Cowie just inside the Academy half. He slid the ball up the left wing to Gary Harris who crossed to the edge of the box for Paul Campbell but he also fired over the bar.

Fraserburgh pushed for the equalizer, Gary Harris powered up the right wing and crossed into the back post to Campbell. He headed back across goal but his effort was cleared off the line by Michael Steven.

The home side forced two quick corners. Sean McCarthy made a great save from Willie West header. The next one lead to a scramble in the Academy box which fell to Campbell. He couldn't make a clean contact on the ball and McCarthy gathered comfortably.

Half Time - Fraserburgh 0 - Wick Academy 1

Seven minutes into the second half Fraserburgh squared the scores. Good play down the left flank saw a cross come into the box which found Paul Campbell. He took a touch and fired a rocked high passed McCarthy.

1 - 1

Just before the hour the home side took the lead. Willie West drove towards goal before crossing to Campbell and from 12 yards out he fired home into the bottom right hand corner for his second of the match.

2 - 1

McCarthy had to look sharp in the Academy goal as he tipped a first-time effort from Willie West over the top of the cross-bar.

On 64 minutes Fraserburgh were awarded a penalty when Gary Harris was pushed whilst trying to reach a cross. Harris took the spot-kick and despite McCarthy guessing the right way he couldn't stop it landing in the bottom right hand corner of the net.

3 - 1

In the next attack Academy were a whisker from pulling themselves back into it. Gary Manson fed Richard Macadie and from 25 yards out he took a touch, teed himself up and had a great effort that smacked off the post.

Lewis Davidson cleared an Academy attack up-field which fell to Harris. He ran into the box and went around McCarthy sending his shot across goal but Michael Steven was there to clear off the line for a corner.

Jack Halliday had an effort from a free kick 25 yards from goal that he sent high and wide of the target on a day that just wasn't meant to be for the Scorries.
