Academy suffered back to back defeats to championship favourites Buckie Thistle as the home side chalked up a 1-0 win. Striker Steven Anderson was suspended today following his sending off last weekend, but young Brandon Sinclair made his first start for the Scorries.

A second half goal from John Mcleod, his 39th of the season, was all that split the sides today. For the second week running Academy finished the game with only 10 men as Sam Mackay was shown a straight red card in the final minute.

Both sides cancelled each other out in the opening exchanges and it took 15 minutes before either side managed to mount a decent chance. That fell to Buckie's John Macleod when he looked sure to score after pouncing on slack play from Michael Steven, but Danny Mackay did great producing a superb covering tackle to block Macleod's shot.

Mackay was in action again a few minutes later as he threw his body in front of a Drew Copeland shot to make another vital block.

Up the other end it was Craig Cowie's chance to demonstrate another great piece of defending as he sprinted back to snuff out a run from Ross MacIver after he was released up-field by Richard Macadie.

Just passed the half-hour Academy failed to clear a Craig Dorrat free-kick but Sam Urquhart fluffed his lines scuffing his shot wide of target from close range.

McCarthy showed a safe pair of hands in the Wick net as he safely held a header from Lewis MacKinnon, and John Macleod had a shot across the face of goal what went wide for a bye-kick in the last action of the half.

Half Time - Buckie Thistle 0 - Wick Academy 0

Buckie pushed for the opener following the interval and it came on 53 minutes. Academy failed to clear a ball that was played into the box and in the melee that followed John Macleod managed to stick it home. A scrappy goal but they all count and Macleod added another one to his name in what's been a fantastic season for him in front of goal.

1 - 0

Macleod was in action again 10 minutes later when he executed a neat little chipped shot which bounced off the top of the Academy crossbar.

Academy won a free-kick which Sam Mackay floated to the back post. Michael Steven got his head to it and forced a save from Daniel Bell in the Buckie goal.

Buckie had a shout for a penalty waved away by referee Mat Northcroft when Macleod looked as if he may have had his heels clipped by Brandon Sinclair.

With 15 minutes left James Pickles had a shot that went high over the top as it looks as if it just wasn't going to be Academy's day.

In the final quarter James Pickles, Ross Allan Marc MacGregor and Michael Steven all picked up bookings, and Sam Mackay was red carded in the 90th minute for an off-the-ball incident spotted by the linesman and pointed out to the referee. That means he will sit out at least the next two league games, and possibly a third due to the totting up procedure.
