Academy welcomed Fort William as our first footers for 2017. Two goals from Gary Weir and Steven Anderson secured the three points to notch up Academy's 6th league win on the trot.

Fort proved to be a tough nut to crack. Gary Weir thought he'd opened the scoring in the 14th minute but he was deemed to be off-side as he stuck the ball home after keeper Douglas Maclennan failed to keep a hold of a Richard Macadie shot.

Two minutes later Michael Steven headed a Gary Manson cross straight to keeper Maclennan.

Next up was Richard Macadie who got his head to a Sam Mackay cross but the ball agonisingly went just past the post.

Gary Weir broke the deadlock on the half-hour. James Pickles worked some space for himself on the right flank and swung in a great cross that Weir slotted home.

In a rare foray into the Academy half Fort William broke out of defence but Scott Davidson skied his effort from the edge of the box well over the cross-bar.

Just before the half-time whistle Weir had a great chance to double the advantage but he headed a cross from Andrew Hardwick over the bar.

Scott Davidson managed to get Fort's only real attempt on target minutes into the second half but Sean McCarthy was equal to it and pulled off a good save.

Weir had his second goal of the game chalked off for off-side when he knocked in another re-bound from keeper Maclennan.

In the 65th minute Academy killed the game. Fort William failed to clear a cross and after a scramble in the box the ball fell to Steven Anderson and he lashed it home. That goal put Anderson's total to 15, level with Sam Mackay at the top of the goals for table.

2 - 0

Weir incredibly had a third goal disallowed by referee Billy Baxter, again for off-side, in the final stages of the match and Academy saw the clock out to pick up another three points.
