Academy started 2017 with a fine 3-1 win over Inverurie Locos at Harlaw Park. A double from Sam Mackay and a goal from Marc Macgregor had Academy 3-0 up with 20 minutes left to play. Daniel Crisp pulled a goal back for the home side but it wasn't enough for Academy to claim their 5th league win on the spin.

In the opening minutes of the game both Mark Souter and Gary Manson had shots that were wide of target.

Just past the quarter hour mark Sean McCarthy was in action in the Academy goal making saves from Locos skipper Neil McLean and then Joe McCabe to keep the scores at zero.

Academy broke the deadlock on 35 minutes when Sam Mackay lashed his shot into the corner of the net from 25 yards out for his 14th goal of the season.

0 - 1

Colin Charlesworth had a chance just before the break to square things as he broke through on goal but McCarthy made a great blocking save.

On 50 minutes Academy doubled their advantage. Referee Liam Duncan adjudged that Daniel Crisp fouled Steven Anderson inside the penalty area and he pointed to the spot. Sam Mackay made no mistake clipping the penalty kick down the middle of the net for his second goal of the match.

Mackay had a chance for his hat-trick but his well hit effort was saved by keeper Scott Mathieson diving to his right to make the stop.

Davie Allan was replaced by Marc MacGregor and he only took nine minutes to get himself on the score-sheet when he stuck home from an Academy corner.

Four minutes later Locos gave themselves a life-line when Daniel Crisp pulled a goal back heading home from close range to set up an anxious final quarter hour for the Academy supporters.
