Academy went on a goal-spree today hammering Rothes 9-0. The score equals our highest league result, last achieved against Strathspey Thistle at Seafield Park in August 2013. Sam Mackay knocked in 4 of today's goals, 3 of them from the penalty spot. That's 6 penalties in the last 2 games that Academy have been awarded, and Sam Mackay has scored from 5 of them. Marc MacGregor also grabbed a double today with the other goals coming from Gary Weir, Steven Anderson and an own-goal (scorer unknown).

Academy started on the front-foot and created the first chance of the game after only 2 minutes. A Gary Manson cross from the right wing into the Rothes box found Marc MacGregor and his glancing header came off the post.

9 minutes later Richard Macadie had another chance for Academy but his shot from 12 yards out went just wide of the target after he'd been teed-up by Davie Allan.

Academy opened the scoring on 16 minutes. Macadie on the right wing played a neat one-two with Gary Manson allowing Macadie room to cross into the box. Rothes keeper Sean Macintosh couldn't hold the ball and it dropped at the feet of Marc MacGregor who had the easiest of tap-ins from 4 yards out.

0 - 1

On 24 minutes Academy doubled their advantage. Sam Mackay played the ball out wide to Davie Allan. Allan whipped the ball in on target and it came off the bar and hit a Rothes defender in a crowded penalty area and bounced back into the net for an own-goal (scorer unknown).

Half Time - Rothes 0 - Wick Academy 2

Academy made a change for the start of the second half. James McLean came on for Andrew Mackay. Gary Manson moved to left back and James Pickles moved to right back.

On 49 minutes Academy created the first chance of the second half. Marc MacGregor got in behind the Rothes defence and went to go around goalkeeper Sean McIntosh who pushed him wide. MacGregor pulled the ball back across goal for Steven Anderson but his shot was blocked and went over for a corner.

Richard Macadie took the corner short to Sam Mackay who swung it into the back post. Grant Steven knocked it back across goal for Marc MacGregor to tap home from 2 yards out for his 2nd goal of the game.

0 - 3

On 56 minutes Academy were awarded a penalty.  Davie Allan cut into the box and tried to take the ball passed Craig MacMillan who took him down and referee Scott Leslie pointed to the spot. Sam Mackay claimed the ball, sent keeper McIntosh the wrong way and fired into the bottom right hand corner.

0 - 4

On 62 minute referee Leslie awarded Academy their second penalty of the match. Davie Allan was again played into the box and as he shaped to shoot Blair McDonald slid in and took him out. Sam Mackay stepped up and made no mistake putting Academy nap and the game well beyond the reach of the home side.

0 - 5

7 minutes later Academy scored goal number 6. Davie Allan drove down the right wing and from the bye-line squared across the face of goal for Sam Mackay to tap home at the back-post for his hat-trick.

0 - 6

On 75 minutes referee Leslie awarded Academy their 3rd penalty. Steven Anderson powered into the box on the left and he was brought to ground. Sam Mackay took the spot kick again sending it to the keeper's right and into the net for his 4th of the game.

0 - 7

Academy looked as if they were going to score in every attack and 10 minutes from time they hit again. Gary Weir had come on for Marc MacGregor and he got himself on the score-card hammering home a low left footed shot from 17 yards out into the bottom left hand corner.

0 - 8

A minute later and the goals kept coming. The ball was worked out to the right wing to Steven Anderson. He cut into the box and from a tight angle fired a great left footed shot into the top corner of McIntosh's net.

0 - 9

In the final minutes Sam Mackay had a chance to make it 10 when he got onto the end of a Davie Allan cross, but he screwed his shot just wide of target.
