Wick Academy made the long trip to North Lodge Park today and came way with a 2-1 win. The result was a repeat of last year’s away match.

Ryan Campbell opened the scoring in the 31st minute, but Conor Gethins pulled the sides level just before the interval.

Gordon MacNab scored the winner in the 53rd minute to take all three points north. The result was Academy’s first victory since their 1-0 win away to Inverurie Locos on the 2nd of November.

Wick took the lead shortly after the half-hour mark. Ryan Campbell started the move chipping the ball forward to Davie Allan. Allan hit the burners beating Kieran Lawrence and got to the bye-line before cutting the ball back to the middle of the penalty area for Campbell to follow in and sweep the ball home with his left peg.

The Scorries were unable to hold out until half-time, however, with striker Conor Gethins heading United level on the stroke of the interval after Academy had failed to clear the ball out of defense.

Academy’s winner came in the 53rd minute. Davie Allan sent in a deep cross from the right flank that went over the top of Jonathan Crawford. Gordon McNab took it down on his chest before swiveling and firing past keeper Kevin Main.

Graeme Rodgers forced a good save by McCarthy who used his feet to clear the 20 yard shot.

The homes side pressed for the equalizer but couldn’t find it so the result moves Wick to within a point of Formartine.
